23 die in fire? Should not be allowed to use LPG

'stingray': Look at the, horrible, picture please: when some LPG tank would have exploded at that crash scene, it would look different, with one, or both, vehicle(s) blown into bits and parts scattered over a much larger area. Where does that leave you with your 'Should not be allowed to use LPG' stuff? Quality(1), well installed(2) and maintained(3), periodically thoroughly controled(4) LPG installations on vehicles are more safe than gasoline tanks! But, admittedly, points 1 to 4 might be an issue here...

The LPG is more safe than Gasoline.

If the Vans gastank explode, there will be nothing left of the Van,

as you see the Back of the Vas is not damage, it would be gone if the tank explode. It is more truly it is gasoline who burned

So logically no problem with the LPG.

RIP all people who lose there life

The minibuses I've used from Victory View to Rayong used NVG, I know this as we would stop in the same gas stations every time in Chonburi. I don't use them anymore, I get a taxi to swampy then get the train into Bangkok now.

RIP victims of your failed police and government.

wow. the orgy of death and destruction in Thailand is really on a roll.

highway carnage, tourists being sprayed with fire, Bangkok night club shootings.

I am so glad they announced the big crack down this year. At least I can make it to the 7/11 a block away. I go with a two person team and we form a tactical formation as we work our way down the block.  :cheesy:

Where are you Thai apologists? You know, the ones who keep trying to convince me that it's just as safe to drive in Thailand as anywhere else.

There s actual people that claim it is safe to drive here ?

Am gobsmacked !!

I really, really, feel like firing off an e mail to the PM on this one, it should not be allowed to happen full stop, however, I feel a rant at the aforementioned PM would quickly result in my expulsion from the Kingdom. Best I keep stuum on this one unfortunately.

Drive or ride yourself, at least you have control about your own vehicle.

I presume that the pick-up driver was in control of his own vehicle.

He was not in control of the minivan, which swung across from the other carriage way and obliterated him and his passengers.

The fundamental problem in Thailand is that you are not in control of the myriad other road users who are out to get you.

Perhaps if the knobs at the top had to travel in a public minivan and experience the lunacy of most minivan drivers - they might think about doing something about it. But, no they travel around in 30 vehicle convoys with police escorts because "don't you know who I am?".  So, yet another minivan crash with 23 of the little people  dead today - oh dear they think, never mind, I wonder what shall we have for dinner tonight .... next !

If a former PM can be dragged through courts on charges related to the failure of a government initiative to help rice farmers (a matter related only to the loss of mere money), why can't a current authority figure who takes ultimate authority and responsibility for traffic, road transport matters also be expected to face a court for their failure to address road carnage?  One would think there's no acceptable argument that citizens' lives are less important than any amount of cash. The lives of citizens (who daily trust that the authorities have their best interests at heart) outweigh money, don't they?

I should not allow this to upset me but it does

The world is fighting terrorism

But far more people are murdered by the Powers That Be on the roads in Thailand, due to them not wishing to stop this

Thailand has draconian laws here on free speech to name but a few, but does nothing to stop this carnage

Put the owners of the vehicles whether driving or not in jail, if a death occurs, fit tachometers and make it jailable if not working

A self elected government can decree martial law, so do not say they have no power

Smoking pot gets you in jail, but murder on the roads does not

INSANITY I THINK

Good God, this is horrible, horrendous and just so terrible, please Mr Prayuth can you do something about these minibuses, limit them to 80 kph, make it mandatory to have GPS installed and check the drivers for drugs, alcohol and how much sleep the driver has had prior to starting work and fine the asses off the companies running these things.

RIP to all those poor souls.

My Mrs is driving to Chanthaburi on Friday for a wedding, I worry constantly until she calls to tell me she has arrived safely.

How are you going to do that, you cant even get them to wear crash helmets, maintain their vehicles or stop them drinking and driving, Thais are uncontrollable.

His grammar may be a wee bit off, but I think most of us get his drift.

Thanks UPDEHSOI.  It's actually a problem I'm having posting from my 'phone since the TV upgrade a while back.  There are some very odd things happening, and my post should have read....don't get In a van.  Take a big bus, train, or fly.

Total carnage, now will people with authority start doing something ?

Yup - they will keep talking (but do nothing substantial). :post-4641-1156693976:

I really think that the "authorities" have no idea what to do, short term or long term. And they are, seemingly, incapable of learning or wanting to learn from other countries.

Or, they don't care? :whistling:

RIP to the deceased and condolences to families and friends.

ruptured petrol tank, next think you will be saying ban all petrol driven vehicles. LPG nothing to do with it

How can you be sure this minibus used petrol?

My wife used to work at a provincial bus Station and every single one used a gas conversion. The money saved was worth it because of the high mileage covered.

Many videos on YouTube of gas cylinders exploding and the vehicle not being totally destroyed.

Thai's appear to have no concept of their personnel vulnerability, self preservation don't come high on the list.......................

oh really  so how to travel , walking ?

Big bus, train or fly, as it is said before.

Thre are some regions unexplored by big buses or trains, in these cases, we need to go by minivan, otherwise....

I am not really sure if LPG in the minivan was the reason or the only reason of the fire. Well maybe more unfortunate actions caused the tragedy. Surely, the driver/s  have more part in it than gas.

Rest in Peace...

Big buses have more than a fair share of fatalities as well, although not as dangerous as mini buses.

I took a van from Kanchanaburi to Bangkok once.....and once was enough.

If you value your life, don't get in a van, big bus, train, or fly.

I agree with you wholeheartedly but have you noticed they are phasing out more and more big bus services so sometimes there is no other option.

I live in Pattaya and there used to be 4 number 99 government buses from Bangkok to Trat passing through here at various times in the morning every day then it was reduced to just one bus at 6 AM and then three months ago they scrapped it completely. The Thais seem quite content zipping around in these things and most passengers even fall asleep. How they do that I don't understand because I am nervously watching the road and the driver as they are often on their mobile phones and tailgating the vehicle in front simultaneously so I am getting ready to assume a brace position for when an impact occurs.

If I want  to go to Koh Chang from Pattaya now my  only choice is to go in one of these deathtraps which I won't do. My other option  is to go by big bus to Bangkok and then get another bus from Bangkok to Trat which is quite ridiculous.

true, maybe because they have more passengers in their coach. Surely not because they have less exercised drivers. This would be almost impossible 55555
