The rail service from Bangkok to Hat Yai has resumed, as of  today 18th January, I saw it reported in the other English language newspaper. The article which is about "Normal train services resume to Sungai Kolok" and lists the southbound services now operational, that list included Train Nos 31, 47, 169 and 171 all of which stop at both Chumphon and Hat Yai.

The road is also open so I assume the buses are running.

Train No.35 isn't on the list published in the paper. If you Google the headline you'll find the article from the other newspaper. It does suggest that 'Passengers can seek information via hot line 1690 around the clock.'

Hat Yai is 'off limits' to many western country citizens.

Simply because our various embassies have issued warnings about the area, and this means in the case of a shooting or similar, you are not covered by your insurance company.

That's the way we like it, keeps the riff-raff out.
