webfact Posted January 24, 2017 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Flood victims face new threat from uncollected garbage NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: -- People in Nakhon Si Thammarat do not only suffer from three rounds of flooding within about a month. They are now facing a new health threat from a mountain of garbage which has been spreading out of the dump site into natural waterways by flood water. Many residents have complained about the putrid water swept downstream from the dump site behind the Thung Tha Lat park and the foul smell from the rotten trash. Pollution Control Department chief Mr Jatuporn Burutpat said Tuesday that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had acknowledged the complaint and sent officials to look into the problem. Although the amount of garbage is huge, it is manageable and there are several companies which are willing to get in to manage the problem, said Mr Jatuporn, adding that they all made a retreat because of conflicts among local politicians.
