Big Blue 3-Stage Water Filter

We are on municipal city water, but it contains a fair amount of sediment and calcium.  I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the 20" Big Blue filters?  I'm considering adding this prior to the storage tank to clean up the house water.  This is not for drinking.

No personal experience with "Big Blue" but filters don't do much about calcium (that I'm aware) unless it's coming in chunks.  Having sediment collect in one place versus another doesn't seem better to me.  I realize this isn't helpful to your question but maybe something to consider?

My experience with water filtration is minimal and that's why I'm asking, but from my understanding ion-exchange resin filters do remove calcium and one of the three stages can have a resin filter.  The big question becomes how effective will it be?

Resin filter have to regenerated with brine. Big blue filters are much too small to be effective as hardness remover as it would needed to be regenerated every few days.

If you have a lot of calcium consider one of the salt-regenerating softeners rather than a unit with disposable cartridges. Salt is far cheaper than the cartridges, we pay 100 Baht for 25kg of pool salt from our local TRS distributor.

We don't have much calcium so a simple 12" polyester "crunchy bits" filter keeps the big stuff out of the tank then a ceramic / carbon / ion-exchange / RO unit for drinking. I change the polyester element when it's the colour of stewed tea.

I also use a ceramic plus ion-exchange unit for washing the car, reduces the risk of water stains if I don't dry it properly.

The best thing you can do for whole house sediment/trash reduction is a drip irrigation filter with a fine mesh screen. It protects my pump and keeps my tank clean. Calcium ? I dont even bother , we have so much in our water it would be too much work and expense to filter it out. I just clean the faucet and shower heads with vinegar every so often, good as new after soaking for an hour. If you do buy the filter set order it from bangkok https://www.duan-daw.com/ filters and housings much cheaper than stores.

I was thinking about getting a filter similar to what you refer to as after the periodic cut offs from the main the water then comes out brown in colour. A relatively new tank now has what looks like an inch if sand in the bottom and over time I think some of the cupboard water heaters have got blocked up.

So I can see what you mean can you post a direct product link to what you refer to as a drip irrigation filter? I am open to suggestions from anybody else for a cheap easy to install/maintain option........

Sorry Crossy but no idea what this would actually look like -

Water is not used for drinking unless boiled.

Here is the link to the 3-stage filter that is pictured above

https://www.duan-daw.com/product/1214/เครื่องกรองน้ำใช้-big-blue-3-ขั้นตอน-cascade

Go there using Google Chrome and it can translate the page for you.  Their website is only in Thai.

They also have a 2-stage, and as mentioned by another poster their prices on replacement cartridges is better than anywhere else I have seen.

Does anyone have any specific product recommendations for calcium removal of city water?  I can always do a 2-stage cartridge for sediment and chlorine with a stand-alone softener, but I really don't know what will be the best solution.

I bought my filter from do home, it has a clear filter cannister so i can see when it is time to clean which for me is approx every 3 weeks. This is an example of what I am talking about. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/G3-4-Male-BSP-Connector-Screen-irrigation-fitler-120-mesh-Garden-Agriculture-filter-Drip-Irrigation-Water/32626394522.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.82.DAGi2Y&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10065_10000073_10068_10501_10000074_10503_10000032_119_10000030_10000026_10000023_10000069_10000068_10060_10062_10056_10055_10000062_10054_10000063_10059_10099_10000020_10000013_10103_10102_10000016_10096_10000056_10000059_10052_10053_10107_10050_10106_10051_10000097_10000094_10000053_10000007_10000050_10084_10083_10000100_10080_10000047_10082_10081_10110_10111_10112_10113_10114_10115_10000041_10000044_10078_10079_10000038_10073_10000035_10122_10123_10121_10124-10503_10501,searchweb201603_1,afswitch_3,ppcSwitch_3,single_sort_3_default&btsid=90f650f3-acda-4e8c-a89a-61849d4b8bdc

Duan-daw has solutions for mineral removal but would be a good idea to call them and find out the correct filter to buy. You should be able to get the screen filter at most large home stores in the garden dept. Fiber/ cannister filters for whole house would get expensive I would think, maybe again have a thai call duan daw and tell them what you are wanting to do.

Regarding your first paragraph, you simply put in this 'salt regenerating softner' into your tank, right?

Do you have a picture or a link to the product you use.

I'd like to try this first to see if there's an improvement before looking at filter systems.

I also have a lot of calcium in from my bore hole.

Many thanks.

Also interested in best solutions for calcium removal.

Just got quoted 38K for a 3 stage filter system, is this reasonable?

Thanks.

I installed a big 3 stage filter for our municipal water. It cleans all water in our household (even for the toilet)
Helps a lot and cleans out a lot of red sediment!
Bought at home pro for 9900 thb.
If you do buy the small 3 stage filter that is more suitable for one tap or sink only.

Nope.

These are in-line softeners / ion-exchange filters, they work in exactly the same way as the cartridges except you don't throw away the media once it's saturates, you re-generate it with brine. You can actually do the same with the cartridges  (check Youtube).
