why in gods name would any human other than Russians go to pattaya

Because whatever lifestyle you want, Pattaya has it (within reason). Live as cheaply or as expensively as you want. Eat whatever cuisine you want. Wider range of affordable bars, restaurants and caffs than anywhere in Thailand.  Wide range of shopping. Live as quietly or as busily as you want. Social life does not have to be alcohol or sex related, plenty of darts, quiz, pool leagues etc. (Sorry no opera). Not the best beaches in the world but they are beaches. English widely spoken so minimal communication problems. Convenient for Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi. No need for a car if you live downtown, can be a mild irritant if you don't.

Everyone local knows who the big money makers are in the "GoGo" combined with prostitution business are. They are on and around Walking Street. Yet, with this knowledge, they "raid" the little guys, a brothel on Soi Chaiyapoom and an unknown GoGo? Go after the big money venues if you really want to clean up the city. Walk carefully on your way to and from and God Bless You along the way. It's long overdue.

Brown envelopes spring to mind again.

Notwithstanding the infestation of whingers, cynics, and rabid bashers on the forum, most of us are pretty happy living in our cesspool. There's actually lots more to do here than, you know, just drinkin' and enjoyin' soapies and threesomes all the time—which ain't too bad, come down to it. Relevant threads: When boredom starts to rule the day, I Love Pattaya, and Why live in Pattaya?.

But you're just trolling. Remember, for every Pattaya detractor, there are a thousand Brits living in council estates dreaming of how they might possibly live here permanently.

Yeah any raid fires up the mighty TVF Tea Money Chorus to chant their chant--and our Brown Envelope Bots buzz in sync. Most of the "expertise" shown off here merely derives from reading the Pattaya tourist bible, Money Number One.

Thanks a bunch! Now I know what religion goes here too, and what the good book is. Anyway, still tired of hearing the same, disregarding what is tried to be done.

This all began after some main headlines hit the western press.

It seems they are doing a Chiang Mai on Pattaya. This is exactly how they eroded the CM nightlife, started with sporadic police raids till there were eventually nothing left. The end is nigh for Pattaya.

What a ridiculous post, I have friends in Pattaya and none of them are lowlife trash, I would wonder what your lifestyle must be like when

you speak of decent people like that just because they live somewhere you don't like. Go and get a life:post-4641-1156693976:

Exactly. Brit tabloids in particular, appealing to the hypocritical prurient interest of the Brit. Hypocritical 'cause after all

Report reveals there are 70,000 prostitutes in Britain earning average of £2,000-a-WEEK

So I say, clean up the tabloids and let Pattaya be Pattaya. :)

The biggest cleanup needed to improve Thailand's image is within the RTP. Thousands of gogo bars and brothels across the country and they pick 2 or 3 in Pattaya? Yet send 3500 troops to arrest one rogue monk.

Exactly, they send 3500 army/police to arrest a monk they already know has fled the vicinity.

The RTP is a corrupt mafia organisation in uniform, a disgrace to the country of Thailand.

So true, the only real bad image of the country is from the Mibs (M is not for men).

There is a huge sex industry in Europe, the world famous red light districts of Amsterdam and Hamburg hardly gain a mention. In Britian the free newspapers that are delivered to homes each week are loaded with thousands of prostitutes advertising on the back pages. In parts of Australia and American brothels have been legatised and there are probably hundreds of brothels in Sydney and Melbourne, many staffed and owned by Thai sex workers and again hardly gain a mention.

When I was in England our single mother neighbour was openly advertising she was a prostitute working from home while at the same time claiming welfare from the State.

It`s double standards perpretrated by Western values that they would rather preach rather than practice.

Just copy Malaysia and the prohibition of sex before marriage altogether - lot of tourism and no seedy town like Pattaya!

(And still there are whore houses top end of Chulia Street and few other illegal joints on Upper Penang road operating out of hotels!)

Yeah Thailand be just like Malaysia - that is what the millions of whore mongers that visit Pattaya, Patong, Patpong, Soi Cowboy want clean up the country...lets face it they don't come to Thailand for the sex but of course for the wonderful culture!!

(totally being sarcastic!)

By bye to billions of Bhats leaving the country for places like Angels city, Santa Domingo, Rio and so on!

Must be only the TAT and RTP that think all those Bhats gone are going to be replace by hoards of Chinese visiting Temples and walking about the streets holding on tightly to every yaun! ..Turning the country in one big Yawn!

Obviously they got a "tip" about what's going on in the bar.  Quite sure they sent plain clothes police in to verify (as if they didn't already know), and then go in with uniforms and a big show of force and photographers at the ready as the shocking things are "discovered".  What a load of horse shit.  It's not even amusing anymore, just a childish, utterly farcical display by these clowns in brown.

If you want to clean up Pattaya, fire the cops and let the Army enforce existing prostitution laws and the Junta can conjure up new, specific laws making these kinds of bars and activities strictly illegal.  They will end as fast as the chicken/cock fights a cop in my village used to hold every weekend... until the Coup.  It was like a light being switched off.  Click.  No more.

Any undergrounds that pop up will be found out quickly, and then squash them fast and hard with these raids.

Then give it a couple years of clean living, family friendly press coverage, and we'll reminisce about the "good old days" of bar fines and ping pong shows from new bar stools in Cambodia.

Ah Yes,The Army waits until the Bib gets their brown envelops then tells them what bars or clubs to raid tonight, choosing the clubs with the most payouts and rubbing the Bib's face in it showing them who is rely in charge. I love this opera playing out in a reality show.Quite entertaining.

Again, Pattaya not suppose to be a place for church goobers to come and meditate,

and no nuns are crushing grapes in those girly bars, there's no money in a place

that's is pious and demure, and believe me no one's morality is at stake here,

allow those shoes to continue under a guidelines of they allowed and what not,

the world is getting more and more to be open towards nudity, sex and expression

of sexual choices and freedom, and if Thailand will not catch up, other countries will...

Sure hope my part of Thailand...and elsewhere world-wide...does not "catch up," and you & your likeminded stay where you are in your communal infections

If you want to clean up Pattaya, you don't send in the RTP with vested interests to dither around this or that poxy go-go. That's like putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop. You roll in the army, close EVERY single one of them, send the mongerers on their way and put up a great big banner on Walking Street et al saying no more smutty business! But they don't really want to do that, do they; killing their income. It is all just a seen-to-be-doing-something face thing. I personally couldn't give a monkeys if Pattaya was closed down, it really would improve the country's image; what gets my knickers in a twist is all the BS pretense in the name of image.

Most gogos are not breaking the law.  All this "cleaning up" business is just journalistic licence, no one is suggesting that Pattaya or any other city in Thailand should be "cleaned up" to the extent that all adult entertainment is shut down.  Thailand has laws regulating such places and as long as they are kept to, everything will carry on as normal.

Just a lttle bit tired of that comment. Something that you guys here is going to continue with long after they start a try for change. Just because you like to bash on the RTP. Seems there is many that have nothing else to do here.

Are you a bar owner or do you know any bar owners in Pattaya?  If you did, you wouldn't make this comment, because it's all about protection money.  It's a total mafia operation operating through the law enforcement arm of the government.  The point is that RTP needs to be cleaned up, before they attempt to clean up Pattaya.

It's so much better than the real thing. So, throw the dogs a bone while we carry on normally.

A clown show for the peanut gallery who appreciate clown shows and then shut up for a while. So, where's the problem, except for the owners who drew short straw. But they'll be back, as every TVF poster knows.

I don't agree. Sadly, it is going backwards and becoming more and more "Victorian" again, mostly thanks to the gazillions of wanna-be good-doers who earn high NGO-salaries and don't want to let it go, plus growing religious extremism.

With the only exception being countries with a socialist government like Bolivia or Ecuador, for example (not that I am a socialist, though)
