Actually there is a lot to be said for a place that you have all above +  in a 2 km radius.  Having said that,  NhaTrang is in process of doing everything better than Pattaya.

Dont live there anymore.Stopped over 2 years ago.As well as hundreds of others that i know who have also left.The place is the toilet of thailand.Always was.But there is no respect for farangs anymore.We are looked upon to be abused in every way they can.You made out that the sex industry was only in small areas.And facing them hotels on the beach are also women for hire.But they walk along looking to be pulled not the same as from central road to walking street.were they stay in there spot..And i have been going thailand for 30 years just lived for 12 years.If anyone asks me about thailand.I tell them the truth and were and how to be safe.There answer to me is.i thought it was cheap in thailand.

Ludicrous.  If they ever built two good sized and proper water treatment plants to cover Pattaya, Jomtien, and Naklua, then re-piped all the bars and hotels to actually use the septic systems, then planted or put back the trees and natural shrubs they just tore out, then you may have something, especially if you leave the ladies there.  But right now you have Pattaya Beach without a usable beach

Plus, clean up the disgusting 'hole of Larn, bulldoze the stupid car park by Bali Hi and make it a park again, either complete or get rid of the marina, make all the speedboats park out of site and restore the promenade to the lighthouse, completely rebuild the  beach walkway and plant shade trees, put seats along it, do something about the traffic, clear the pavements and move the hire m'bikes and the riff raff blocking the roads with "reserved" parking ( no parking at all on main streets ), ban the hawker stalls from the main sois. Then they MIGHT be getting somewhere.

Agreed. On my recent visit to Chiang Mai I was in the bars and chatted to some of the girls and boys. There were hardly any mongers at all- most bars had more staff than customers, and that was in high season. I did ask the price, and was completely boggled at how much it was. 

I thought C M was a very boring place and the night life was a complete farce. I guess if the authorities succeed with Pattaya, it will become the same.

The fact is most nature tourists come to Thailand once or twice which generates little  revenue for the government, sex and service workers.

 

What most people don't think about is sex tourism is a multi trillion dollar industry worldwide.  Sex tourists come back on a regular basis and many buy condos, send money to girl friends that feed their families, set up Thai bank accounts and wire money in, hire lawyers, buy visas, rent and buy  cars and motorcycles, pay taxes,   utilize most services, and buy groceries. The list is endless. Some stay for the rest of their lives. Sex tourism built Thailand to what it is today ever since soldiers started to pour in here for R&R.

 

When expats and tourists write ignorant content here, it hurts the Thai Government's and the sex and service worker's cash flow.  Which in turn over time hurts the expats who have lived here for decades.

 

Please think before  you spew your negativity and display your ignorance. 

I live here and have done for over 15 years and enjoy it.  No need to be affected by sleaze areas if you don't want to, BUT, it is a dirty place, the sea, the pavements (where they exist at all), the ugly power lines.  All the negative things that are said are here true, the infrastructure struggles be as good as poor!  But amid the doom and gloom it also has everything you need, as a westerner at least for, a comfortable and enjoyable existence despite all the moans and groans.

There are sleaze areas, ugly power lines, and dirty, more dangerous areas in most every major city in the world.
