Update on CM nightlife...

It's worth noting the thread is about CM nightlife, not small, dark, quiet places where people can quietly drink after-hours.  Nightlife requires light, music, pretties and a generally happy vibe.

Also worth noting that while Zoe may have gotten away with late closings on occasion, it's not a regular thing.  A little over two weeks ago everyone had to clear out at midnight.  But no doubt there are small, dark, quiet places where one can drink after hours and congratulate oneself on getting away with it.

<deleted> most places are super quiet compared to Bangkok.

I'm here 13 years it Chiang mai is still as fun as it t ever was, the only difference these days I'm home earlier. Zoe in yellow and  Kad Bon Yoo is a dump explore more, find some Chiang mai friends.

Good post..."explore more."  Excellent advice.  First timers, use Lonely Planet to get your bearings, then pitch it...it is often out of date, and being Asia, things change rapidly....then maybe look at trip advisor...go exploring near some of the highly touted places and you may find a gold mine of beer promos and girls.  Nimman is a good place to just wander around...always fashionable to walk with an open container....the highest rent is going to be on the main roads, and thus the most touristy, priciest places..An empty bar is not a good sign, but if you are starting at 8....won't hurt to try...might be a good size group in there by 11 pm.  Things still don't get rolling until late, as it appears that most have not just started drinking two hours earlier to make up for early closing times.  And the heat plays into it, too.  Starts getting much more comfortable outside after 10 or 11...and will continue to be like that for at least the next two months.

Night golf at Stardome with the "refreshers" may add a little spice during and after a round.

I am a little afraid to ask, but what is "night golf at Stardome," and what are the "refreshers" ?

thanks, ~o:37;

I am also afraid to ask but I will.  If you are playing golf at night how do you know where your balls are and how can you tell if you get a hole in one, or should that be the other way round?

I don't understand these golfing terms!

I walked that place looking for the outdoor shop (across the parking lot in the archery store)....Some of the refreshers looked pretty good in passing.....Capable of recharging your battery....Seemed happy & obliging....

There's also a few massage places there, as well as some private & unlabeled areas.....

Betting the guys working on their golf game are indeed a happy bunch....

Last time I went to play golf in Chiang Mai, a complete stranger and totally unprovoked told me to tee off. I head butted him and have not played golf since.

I quite like Golf, buy only became really familiar when i moved to CM.

I developed similar  interests in Beer, Cake, Apple, Cream, Jam, Milk, and Cartoon.

Plenty of fun in CM for sure, but consistently regular and vibrant nightlife for younger (or even older) tourists is limited in venues and closing and holiday closures.

The solution is to start drinking early, get on it early by the time 24:00 comes along you'll have enough, besides there's lots of places around that still open until all hours

[emoji6] Yep, and nothing good happens after midnight anyway. My gran was right.

Why rouse the gremlin?

You are likely to a get a response that is even less comprehensible than the original.

I suggest let sleeping dogs lie!

It can be deciphered I think ;)

i believe the the person who posted it is concerned by being filmed by someone they don't know whilst being in a bar or club (maybe whilst being with someone they shouldn't be ;) )

also so they were annoyed by the fact that the person narrating the video didn't appear in the video themselves ;)

Since you are able to carry out a detailed deciphering of such a cryptic message (as above) would you be willing to do the same for all Leo’s (or is that ‘Chang’s) as printed in the latest horoscope in my local newspaper?

It would save me a fortune in ‘fortune-tellers’!

Sure thing - take all your money, fly to Vegas, put it all on black at the first casino you come across ;)

The updates are that the CM nightlife is even worse then when you came here a year ago.

Any recommendations of where to go out in CM? I can`t think of any and I`m being serious, not being sarcastic.

for foreigners, it's just the main drag you were at pretty much. when i was there they all had to close at midnight, police ordinace. spicy was able to stay open until the wee hours but not sure if its still there. shady freelancer joint. last i heard they moved to a place on the moat road. karaokes all over down chang klan but tend to be criminally run, not recommended.

bars are basically all the same. once you have seen several youve seen them all. take your friend to the go-go's that are there and to several bars, what more do you need to do at a bar or club for more then four hours a night?

do you need to keep moving from one bar or club to another all on the same night like some people do? relax and take your time. you could visit a different bar every night of the month if you need to do that.

They have all closed down, none still open

Think there are one or two still in business, but even when they were in abundance in Chiang Mai Land and in parts of the Chang Klan Road, I never dared to venture into any of those places.

The bottom line is that Chiang Mai nightlife sucks and the further north travelled from Bangkok the worse it gets. It`s OK for a tame meal out or taking in a movie at a cinema with a girlfriend or wife but if fancying a wild night out alone or with mates and painting the town red, forget it, it`s no longer possible in Chiang Mai. It is something like some of the old expats here, well past it`s prime.
