up-country_sinclair
In my opinion, this is the best airport in Thailand for arrivals. Walk off the plane, down the stairs and out the door. Fantastically quick and easy.
Just1Voice
NO airport is a "good one" when construction cuts cost by cutting required material for runways.
Thechook
Actually looks perfection compared to thai roads. Cant see a problem and should last another 30+ years here until a farang buys some cement and a barrow
clockman
They have never reinvested in tourism. Just think of the present Sabai, Sabai.
thaiowl
My son is a pilot and tells me that part of Chiang Mai airport's runway is closed for repairs and there are runway repairs currently taking place at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Is there a theme here?
TallGuyJohninBKK
Cracked and subsiding runways?? Repairs done and then failing again thereafter??? Hmmm.... Seems like I've heard this story somewhere before in Thailand, and it wasn't at Krabi.
spidermike007
Well, the current government has whittled it's reserves down from 500 billion baht, to less than 75 billion. So, there is little money left for infrastructure. Sorry. We messed up. Not sure where the money went, but we managed to spend it. I guess that is what happens when you have incompetent neophytes managing every ministry in the land. Oh well.

12DrinkMore
Quote The repair finished and opened to traffic late this afternoon. Twelve hours to fix a runway? Bet that will last. About another 12 hours.

Is there a theme here? Airport runways do need maintenance. The weight of aircraft touching down on them does damage them over time. I am currently working with some of the guy who built Suvarnabhumi airport and I know they would have insisted on international standards being applied. However, small airports do seem to be neglected until they can not be used. This has to have an effect on the tourism but typical Thai attitude "It will be ok"

Stargeezr
Don't forget that there was losts of rain in southern Thailand including Trang and Krabi, more than usual, and this could have undermined the soil in the area including at the airport. Yes it is possible that there was also shoddy construction, but I do remember a lot of flooding happened in the South Thailand areas. And even though virtually every Thai I speak with, who is willing to speak openly about this administration, completely disapproves of them, few are aware of just how corrupt they are. They are able to hide behind the honorable facade of the army, and people just do not know what is going on, and how much money is being made. There is a good reason why nobody big is being brought down, and nobody rich or influential is being charged with corruption, or other crimes.
