NO they have not!  Simply not true. In view of bereavement issues one or or two such as the Surin elephant round up was cancelled - some festivals have been toned down - or modified to acknowledge sadness at the King's passing such as the Lopburi Monkey feast but the rocket festivals have not been stopped.  Nor the candle festivals etc etc.  You are a 100 percent wrong.  So why print such false information?

Where I live which is NE of Surin, they're letting off rockets on an almost daily basis.  They had a very small elephant round up this year at the village I'm at,  anyone who didn't attend didn't miss much.

My wife said something about some rocket festival in Rattanburi on the 5th of May?  She's going to check with her friend though..

Thanks - any info would be appreciated. I am sorted for Yasothon but now need to sort out Udon Thani - Roi et - Kudwa/Kalasin-sisaket and any others that exist .....then the Pee/ghost festival in June which might have rockets. Tomorrow I'm going to the TAT office in Pattaya to seek clarification also on wax castles etc.

No very few have been stopped . I went to three last year 100s of thousands of people attended Yasathon - Kalasin and sisaket and it was brilliant

Strange... none at all happening around here in contrast to four or five years ago. Big festivals, I don't know about but most of the village level festivities no longer involve fireworks.

People who have not been to the rockets festivals do not understand the the content is not just big bamboo rockets being fired up into the sky but all the other elements involved - the music - the joy - the pageantry - the beautiful costumes - the dance - the the sheer fortitude and elegance of the beautiful women and their their male musicians who walk and dance for hours in the sun - the village headmen and women exhorting for luck and rain -the multiple processions and performances which make it all such a joyous time.  Twice I have tried to upload a short video I made about Yasathon - Kudwa and Sisaket but the wrong video showed up - one about the lopburi monkey feast last november.  I tried to delete the wrong video but could not. I will give it one more try to let people know what they are missing. Enjoy. This video and others about Thailand, Vietnam and Serbia can be found on my You tube Channel called Dijahtal Arts - My motto is' Dijahtal Arts Bringing a Big World To A Small Screen Near You.'

There's an old saying 'You've seen one, you've seen them all'. The same applies to all Thai festivals or religious celebrations ie monks parties, weddings, deaths, Loy Kratong, house party etc etc. They never change the format and it all becomes boring after a few years.

I'm not a troll. I'm just voicing my opinion.  Sorry if I offend.

Thanks for uploading the video, maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I for one like these traditional festivals.
I've not been to any rocket festivals but last year spent 10 days in Ubon Ratchathani with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the Candle Festival, a great spectacle .
Carry on making the videos and keep up the good work [emoji106]

Did anybody notice that on the list I sent there is no mention of Sisiket? Is that because it is named differently - Last year it was  Ras al Salai I think and I stayed at the pensiree resort...near a scrapyard......Anybody got any ideas?

But where is the reference to Sisaket?

I was told today that there will be no more rocket festivals within the area I live in. There's been none for the last 3 years or so, so it was to be expected. The governing bodies claim they're too dangerous. Hopefully the banning of Songkran will be the next on their agenda.

I attended 3 last year in yasathon, sisaket and kalasin so you are wrong. Elsewhere on this forum I have provided a list for the 2017 rocket festivals so please stop deliberately missinforming people. Your killjoy attitude suggests clinical depression and living in a dire situation. May I respectfully suggest you seek help. I'm not trolling just trying to be helpful. Get help. To indicate how wrong you are I attach the following. http://www.bangkokpost.com/travel/in-thailand/1241490/rocket-festival-gives-locals-a-blast

Tell me one town/village in Buriram Province that is going ahead with their rocket festival?

Congratulations. Did you attend any in Buriram Province? Nah cuz they didn't have any due to the governor not sanctioning them is what I'm told. Same applies this year.

He's talking nonsense. I am currently in Yasothon where the festival is from the 11th to the 14th. For those of you who want to visit these amazing events I suggest you do confirmation research as to the exact dates by phoning the local numbers of the municipalities. Those numbers and other numbers are on the list. This year I plan to Check out the Roi Et and Kaen Khan rocket festivals  as well as Sisaket and Kalasin/Kutwa..... But still no info on Sisaket where they have already had one rocket show on May 1st but Rockets of a different nature - Horizontal and based on targetted accuracy not just height, duration and beauty. I have attached a link. To be honest I set up this thread to generate genuine information about Bun Bang Fai 2017. I don't want it hijacked by Thai haters, racists or grumpy bores.

Burriram may be the centre of your life but not ours. This thread has always been about the existing Rockets festivals in Issan and elsewhere. Enough with your tedious, petty comments - they offer nothing positive and are misleading.  So let me reiterate - there are dozens of rocket festivals in Issan and elsewhere. Each one unique just as every rocket is unique. They are an important part of the life of the local people, their culture and their religion. Please find another forum to project your depression on to. I value neither your opinions or wrong headed information.

Oh I will - I'm here in Yasothon right now. BTW don't confuse manic with the bipolar illness once known as manic depression. You need to stop obsessing with negative outlooks and think positivly. Please stop wasting all our time on this thread /forum. You have made your point. You don't like Thai culture, or people enjoying themselves, and are obsessed with criticising people who enjoy themselves in Thailand, presumably because you have a joyless existence and possibly parental love issues. I established this thread for the distribution of information about the 2017 rocket festivals in Thailand. Your views which I cannot ascertain exactly seem based on hate, low IQ or wrong decisions in your life. Seriously - get help and stop trolling this thread. My motto is-'Have fun will travel '. Your motto seems to be :' Have glum will travel'. You are not funny, clever, adult or helpful. You make no positive contribution. Again - I suggest you get medical help to snap out of your loop of bitterness and negativity.  This is not trying to be insulting just well meaning advice. Take care of yourself brother. Peace, love and Vibes.

Yasothon claims to have had the original rocket festival. A small town called Phanom Phrai, south and a little east of Yasothon vigorously disputes that claim. They still have brawls every year, The last time I saw a big rocket festival was in Phanom Phrai. They have a big parade of the rockets heading for the launch site, Some of them are huge, probably about 40 feet long. I had a little Suzuki 4X4. Shortly after the launches finished the sky opened up and the rain came down in buckets. Many pickup trucks were stuck in the mud. I told my girlfriends brother, Arkom to find a long strong rope and we would pull some of them out. He thought I was crazy and that we would get stuck too. Everyone was covered with mud, top to bottom. I have no idea of how many we pulled out. Of course I would take no money but we HAD to have a drink with them after we pulled them out. I got drunk to the point that Arkom had to drive me back to the house. That was probably the most fun I ever had upcountry.

That was the first year that they had to ignite the rockets electrically from a small bunker. Before that, it was common for a rocket to blow up and people were injured or killed. No injuries that year and no rockets blew up. Some fizzled and that drew a lot of laughs. Those people do know how to party.

There was a lot of betting. That year it was difficult to judge the height because they were all going through and above the clouds. A big part of the judging score is how straight they fly. They ended up timing the falling debris to determine which ones went the highest.

The phanom phrai festival is on the list I sent scheduled for around 9/10 June. It would be good to go there after checking out the Roi et festivals which are a week earlier . RE Sisaket I rang the guest house I stayed in last year - the pen silly resort and they that it was 27/28 may in Ampur Ras Al salai Same location as last year. So despite some silly contributions I am pleased that this thread has generated so much information about so many BBF festivals including ones I I had not heard of - As early as March and as late as June.
