In addition, most Thais are conservative and do not support the in your face type atmosphere that is so prevalent in Pattaya and the other tourist ghettos. Frankly speaking, if I was a single person and interested in the entertainment scene- I would give Thailand a pass. A lot more fun in other countries without visa hassles and at lower prices. The golden days of Thailand where everything was freewheeling is gone. In addition, the widespread use of drugs in the entertainment scene is another reason the powers in charge want to close it. I agree with you words about "in your face". I always enjoyed Pattaya just because things were easy, but I never took advantage of it, never abused, never flaunted it. On one of my trips after a few days there, one of the bar girls that you know, see more than you might think, and have a good idea of who is staying on the street, yelled out to me "You walk too much". The police arrived in numbers and took everyone from the bars and made them sit down on the floor at the end of the soi (not the beach end). Afterwards the word on the street was that the pedos had left and gone to Cambodia. Soi 6 took on the bar-girl/farang relationship theme and gradually built up. I can recall walking past one bar - about half way on the left from the beach road end - and counted 18 girls, all dressed in the same schoolgirl outfits. It hasnt happened yet and when it does its for about 5 days, then every thing is back to normal.Me and Mrs Kaen had 2 bars in patts for 5 years. We were never visited, or told about any closures.We were never bothered, in any way. And we werent paying much money to plod. We used to open at 2 pm, play music until 12. Howiehotspur Posted June 18, 2017 Share Posted June 18, 2017 I've travelled as I'm sure most have on here , all over Thailand , pattaya is the biggest money making Town/ city .. other than BKK , and I'm sure in turnover Patts runs that pretty close too ... really do they think , making it pro family friendly , it will continue to coin it in ? ... they must do I guess ... thing is it won't be only shifting out the ladies , massage ( both types ) ,tattooists , and a couple of dozen 7-11s , the infrastructure needs really upgrading , the beach isn't family friendly , neither are the roads or pavement , for family's .... only yesterday walking around in pratamak Hill , a Russian family I assumed , tipped her baby's pushchair over with the pavement being all over the show .. the baby was bleeding , cut head it looked like , I don't know how serious ... But it seems to me that these "crackdowns" are becoming more frequent and stricter, setting a regrettable trend for we consenting adults who enjoy a little daytime relaxation I do hope I'm wrong. Trying to make sin city into Disney Land resulted in casino bankruptcies people were selling out and going else where, the tiger was changing it's stripes. After a couple of years of building family theme parks and churches which was suppose to bring the right element of tourist and homers owners,no one came. Just the opposite happened everybody was leaving. Vegas, found out quickly sin city was why Las Vegas was built and why it flourished in the past and why it would flourish in the future. When they finally realized America needed a playground for adults their economy started booming, new casino's were built and continue to be built today. Sin City is a #1 retiree destination in America. Wake up Thailand, Pattaya is what makes Thailand great!
