Video: Jomtien Beach 1984

Nice memories [emoji4]

1984 !, probably a big lump of a camcorder used to film [emoji327] that ?
In the mid 80's I had one of these:
Amstrad VMC 100 , one of the cheapest, still expensive though, but worth it for the family memories. ( wonder where they are now ? )

Stunning.

Not a single high rise. Not a hotel in sight.

And no one seemed to whine about bamboo type parasols and deckchairs.

Video not taken far from the corner of Thappraya rd.

And learned: "Sunlight Seafood", THE pioneer restaurant on Jomtien beach.

They advertise that on their FB page:

Humans seem to think destroying nice places and replacing it with horrid concrete boxes is a good thing.

I think it's stupid.

Greed has destroyed us all, whatever our own inclinations.

However, if they had to build a load of malls and stuff, I wish they had put them on Jomptien and left Pattaya as a cheap and cheerful mongers paradise.

I wish you had not posted this as it brought back memories of my first visit to Jomtien beach.

The Thai family I was staying with took me there and introduced me to Po Taek soup. A great laugh for them and a loss of face for me. But being a Farang, it didn't count.

I miss those simpler days which is why I prefer the north now as Jomtien and Phuket are not the same any more.

This video seems to have been recorded at the time when the trees recently torn up were originally planted. Shame.

Those trees to which you refer, were planted about 16 years ago...when they put in the walk way which should have been repaired for the money being spent now to make parking and more people for the fewer chairs...

I stopped there tonight for a beer and to let the gf eat her Thai food.

She ordered the Tom Yum with Seafood and reported it was very good, unusual for her as she's very picky about Thai food.  So it must have been pretty good.

It might warrant a 2nd visit at Jomtien's first restaurant, perhaps I'll let the gf try the fish next time.

Btw, saw the sign you posted.  Thanks for sharing.

oh god a slice of heaven.  I thought Jomtien was ok in 2004, my first trip there.  Shame the Thai mentality of overdoing every thing. One 7-11 makes money, open 5 more on the same street.  Sure some build up is to be expected.  Make a modern road, some hotels, and hopefully with the water and sewar systems to go with them.  But they didn't.  I shudder to think what all the newer hotels and condos do with their waste

  • 8 months later...

This is the Pattaya that I remember.  When I came back in 2007, I spent one night and then left.  The quaintness had long since disappeared from what I could see.
The memories are good.  Nice video!
