KOH SAMUI: -- Police on Koh Samui have announced the arrest of a 42 year old Czech Republic national wanted for a 53 million baht fraud in Europe.

Radek Juricek was arrested Friday at a ferry terminal on the southern Thai island.

He had told immigration in extending a visa that he was a teacher.

The arrest was a joint operation by immigration police, local cops and Interpol after Juricek appeared on a red notice as a wanted person.

He is alleged to have committed a 1.5 million Euro property fraud in the Czech Republic. He is now in the custody of Interpol having had his rights to stay in the kingdom rescinded and been blacklisted as a danger to society.

Surat Thai immigration representative Wanchana Buankhun said that Juricek originally entered Thailand via Sadao, Songkhla, in February 2014. He had then extended his stay continually.

His latest extension was in Sri Racha where the reason given for his request to stay in Thailand was being a "teacher, professor or educational specialist".

he's a "government official" as well.

that's what they used to tell us, I imagine still do, as soon as you even apply for an English teaching job.... at a public school.. 'you will be considered to be a Government Official'.

what does that mean????

what it only means... that I could ever tell.... is "government to government" immigration service.. which generally was less sweat than regular immigration service based on my 15 years experience at 3 different offices.... i.e. not even having to appear in person at labor until your work permit is completely approved and ready.... along with free stays at resorts with golf courses and tennis.... which isn't bad at all but... you otherwise have to be a bit Thai to fully get what else they mean by this.. I guess.... and being endlessly saluted by students.

His mistake was to go anywhere near Sri Racha immigration. They don't give out any sort of extension without some grilling, insinuations and scolding and sometimes they don't give them out at all. However in this case the insinuation that foreigners are by definition up to no good, if not outright criminals, was actually right. They will be unbearably suspicious for the next few months.

The piece says that he was arrested at a ferry terminal after having obtained an extension. My thinking is that he had obtained that by corruption, but after it had become known to other officers of his fugitive status,  law prevailed in the end.

So perhaps there is a way to be treated well by Sri Racha immigration, unlike your experience.

Deport the rascal cheat far away!!!...a thief is something rotten....but a cheat is far worse...and  the two together in one, makes it absolutely disgusting!

How is a cheat worst than a thief?  I would rather be conned out of some money than bludgeoned with a rock for my wallet any day.

Not sure what you mean but to give you an idea, both the cheat and the thief are dishonest people, for which nobody would  like to waste time !

One could consider a common thief, anonymous who steals your wallet without you noticing....A cheat could be somebody who gets into say a relationship with you, talks sweet and later cons you out. Betraying trust IMHO can be harder to digest then plainly loosing a wallet by a pickpocket.

How about a mechanic who cheats you out of a few baht vs a burglar who poos in your sock drawer?  The problem with attempting to compare two very loose terms is that either could imply very varied things, so your assertion that a cheat is worse than a thief is just false, what you meant is the type of cheat you had in your mind is worse than the type of thief you had in your mind, well the ones I had in my mind were the opposite, thieves are worse than cheats in my book and no doubt this is due to the thieves and cheats I have encountered.

That's your opinion...but not mine....I assume and hope for you my dear fellow, that you can accept that others can have a different opinion as you ?...Or are you one of those few posters, who consider that their sole opinion is worth all the bitcoin$ in the world ?

Idiot.  Why do these fraudsters still try and remain legal?  You can steal 53 million baht but you can't bear the thought of overstaying a visa?  Bizarre.

Yeah, just one million baht and he would have been 'home free' with the Elite Visa.

Let me get this straight, in your opinion a mechanic cheating you out of just a few Baht is worse than a burglar pooing in your sock drawer?

Only difference, you describing the cheat (i presume cheat you mean Thai style) doesnt really brake any law.

The mark does volunteer and give freely of money, valuables, buying houses etc really have to be several different kinds of stupid to fall for it

to much thinking with the little head

By your standards,  a bad person perhaps does not always break the law.

But one could assume nevertheless that he remains a bad person, that a decent individual should tend to avoid,

I think that I gave you an answer to a similar comment that you are posting many times (see post no 17).

Now if you wish to defend a cheat against a thief,  and if you cannot get it straight my dear fellow that both are equally bad as mentioned in post no 17, I don't think I can help you much further ?

If we talkin Thailand, and if im being ripped off a few baht

Well of course i dont appreciate it, but even then i dont always consider them bad person.

Maybe desperate, have no opportunity and with poor education and parenting quality, they never really had a chance do they.

And  governments that never helped the poor either except for a little bit Taksin gave em.

But many of farang will marry the one like i just mention above thinking "she different"  but of course she soon turn to be a bad person soonly after you buy the house!!!!!
