I hazard a guess that the Casino oil will be a super low grade Pomace oil (ok for cooking) and no doubt blended with other oils

Actually not Pomace oil mate, but Extra Virgin blend from EU countries (or so it says)..........wouldn't even use Pomace oil for cooking, oiling bicycle wheels perhaps!!!

I was just at Prompan and they have a deal on the Gaea extra virgin olive oil. Buy one for 250 Baht and get one free. They have four different varieties.

Just to add to your info, it is 250 +VAT at least that's what I paid this morning

I didn't really notice. I had just grabbed one bottle and the checker said buy one get one free. I thought VAT was usually included in the price at Prompan, but as I said I didn't bother to look and of course my wife threw out the receipt.

Is there ample supply on the shelves to pick up a few bottles?

The supply was getting a bit low on the self. I got the last bottle of one variety yesterday, but they probably have more stock in the back. They were busy stocking other parts of the store and I didn't ask as I didn't need more than two as I still had some at home.

A post in violation of fair use policy has been removed.

Looks like it could have been mine regarding a Greek consortium selling fake olive oil and arrested in November this year.

It was actually sunflower oil to which some green colouring agent was added. It was packaged in tins and sold in Greece, Germany and other countries.

500 ml. I'm not sure it's at the sale price now though, I bought those bottles over two months ago.

I recommend a vinegrette (for fresh salad). Also lovely to mix with lemon and pour over

grilled fish or shrimp. Or grilled chicken. Enjoy your olive oil, as it is an elixir for good health.

Bangkok; Foodland; Soi 5 Sukhumvit

do they have the real thing or is it all fake?

You could try asking this momentous question on the Bangkok forum where people might even give a toss ed salad about your empty bottle of condiment..

Today I went to Prompan, they didn't have anything special except Bertolli.

Where do you guys are buying your olive oil nowadays?

The specials they had on the "high quality" Greek EV Olive Oil have long gone as have those in Tops, so now it's a case of seeking out what is available from the myriad of "commercial" EV olive oils.......buyer beware!

Just wonder how much more olive oil out there is "not what it says it is"? This from ConsumerLab……….

The maker of Bertolli olive oil (Deoleo USA, Inc) has agreed to pay $7 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that alleged certain Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Classico Olive Oil products were marketed, misleadingly, as "imported from Italy" (when most of the oil was made from olives and/or extracted in countries other than Italy) and/or extra-virgin.

The lawsuit also alleged that the company's bottling and distribution practices did not adequately ensure that the oil would meet the "extra-virgin" standard through the date of retail sale or the best by date on the bottles.

This applies to the following three Bertolli olive oil products that were sold in the US: – Bertolli extra-virgin olive oil, Bertolli extra light olive oil, Bertolli classic olive oil.

2.5 minute documentary, about oils in general and the process of adulteration.

NOT specific to olive oil, but important non the less.

Jeez...….that is disgusting and along with the Chinese treating rotten chicken with formaldehyde, strengthens my resolve to stay away from any food China exports!!

Back on track with olive oil; my local Villa Market store often has a two for one special on EVO Oils, so perhaps it is available elsewhere??
