There are plenty hostesses at those pubs (Oxyde, Milk Club etc.) and they're very much there to chat/flirt with customers, but it's a more Thai scene, and Thai people don't really go to pubs by themselves, so it's not a natural place to go to when on your own. When with a group of friends though I'd consider it. Same applies to the karaokes like any of the Ter Karaoke places (where a LOT of fondling goes on): in theory you could go by yourself and you'll be just fine if you do, but it's just more natural with some more people. You don't need it for the coffin dodger visa, but it's required when you're on a work permit: the work permit extension is a requirement for your yearly visa extension and requires a basic medical certificate. I've never been to Ter Karaoke, or any karaoke except the kind where you drink and make a fool of yourself singing in front of friends, but I trust you wouldn't lie about such an important topic. It boils down to personal preference. I'm past the age when I would go out to get drunk and laid, so I just go to these places to drink and enjoy the company of pretty women. I find it easier to have a conversation with a college student who is hoping for a decent tip than with a working mother who is hoping to be farfined and rent herself by the hour. I think you'll find they are ......... but not the downmarket Thai girls that do it with foreigners. I'm still fairly new to pretty bars, maybe a dozen visits in the last few months, but I have never observed any 'handling the goods'. But then, I've never gone with Thai gang members.
